I haven’t posted a boring update about events and books and info and whatnot in awhile, so here’s one for your viewing displeasure.
First, some events: Saturday, March 17th, 7pm I’ll be doing some story telling and slide show stuff with Fireside Follies at Brooklyn Fireproof, along with Jeff Neufeld, Bianca Stone and Marcie Paper.
March 24th at 3pm: Comic New York symposium at Columbia University. I’m on a panel with Bill Griffith, R Sikoryak, and Charles Brownstein. I know, I have that “one of these things…” song stuck in my head too. Should be interesting! I hope I get to talk about how much I hated college while talking at a college.
April 28th, UCBeast 7pm: ‘Museum of Mistakes presents For My Moms.’ That’s right, I’m hosting a comedy/comics show at UCB East and I’m super excited and if you come to one event I do this year, please make it this one. It’s called “For My Moms” because my actual mom will be there. Performers are Lisa Hanawalt, Domitille Collardey, Adam Conover and myself. Lisa and Domitille are doing comics slide show stuff and Adam and I are doing more stand up comedy/story telling stuff. I’d like to make this kind of show a reoccurring event so come out and support it! Also to see me use swears in front of my mom.
Moving on….
Second, per some comment confusion, let me explain the book I have coming out this year. I posted a few preview pages and if you read this site regularly you’re probably like “yeah yeah we get it, shut up about it already” but I’m going to talk about it more. Originally, I’d hinted at another collection of single page comics (like the Fart Party books) with Koyama Press but then while assembling the material I realized I hated it and wanted to do a book of all new stuff. The publishing date had been set for May of this year but we pushed it back to September because OH MY GOD WHO CAAAAAAARES.
Anyways, the new book will debut at SPX. What’s it about? Well, it’s about CATS!! kidding, it’s about my feelings! kidding, I don’t have any. It’s about sex! kidding, it’s the opposite; It’s about moving to San Francisco and getting diagnosed with systemic lupus. You think I’m kidding because House says “it’s never lupus” but it totally is sometimes and I can prove it. There are two other stories in there, one about all the jobs I’ve had and the other about books because the SF story is only about 100 pages long and I could have stretched it out to another 100 to make it a complete, singular book but that would mean more wordless panels with the characters looking all morose and 9 panel pages where a hand is opening an envelope or some shit. Booooooring.
Here’s a photo of my stupid fucking cat for your viewing pleasure:
Have you ever watched Jared Logan do stand up? If not, you should. Did you see Lisa Hanawalt’s hilarious comic “the Secret Lives of Chefs” in Lucky Peach? Have you ever seen this abandoned amusement park? (thanks for the link, Muzition) I probably never will and it makes me upset forever.

You make me wish more than ever to go to NY. Cause i caaaare. Love your stuff, good luck for all.
You’re welcome. I look forward to your new book. And your cat is really cute.
Good luck on your new projects! I like the previews. I was looking for a good/cool/elegant way to put in a quote, I recently heard. But I fail, so I just spit it out: “Shut up and take my fucking money!”
The last time I’ve been to Berlin I actually was at Treptower Park, but I didn’t realize there was this awesome amusement ruin. Instead I spent some time there:

If you’re ever in Berlin, check this out as well. Impressive! Depressive!
I want a cat!
That amusement park link was great. Thanks! Wish I could make the UCB show.
Your stupid fucking cat is delightful. Mid-yawn is the moment when they look most frightening. Most of the time those ghastly teeth are hidden away and you’d never know they are born to kill.
Superb link to the abandoned park. They used something similar in looks to the movie “Hannah”. I’d love to see that place for myself, though.
The abandoned amusement park used to be the only permanent installation of this kind in whole East-Germany. I’ve been there a lot as a child. After unification it has been bought by a West-German investor, completely rebuilt and further developed until it finally closed in 2001. Since then it deteriorated and became completely overgrown by nature. It suffered a lot vandalism as well. In 2004 I trespassed and inspected the area but I got caught by security with nasty dogs. However they let us go without calling police or anything. Today the original owner re-opened parts of the park for guided tours. You can take photographs of the park in its current state (abandoned and deteriorated) and get quite a detailed overview about its history. Whenever you visit Berlin, you should attend to one of those tours, but bring yourself an interpreter (as far as I know it’s only in German). The general plans are to re-open the park with all rides and maybe new rides, but there is no schedule for it as far as I know.
@trav28: “Hannah” has been filmed in exact this location.
Yay for new book ~ can’t wait!
~Hanna (which was an awesome movie btw).
Really looking forward to the book. I will be at SPX this year.
