christmas eve 2009

November 2, 2011

This is an excerpt from a longer comic about winter 2009 when I spent Christmas eve in a shitty health clinic in the lower east side. Obviously I’m fine and I didn’t die. I don’t want to get into the details online, but I did just talk to Mike Dawson on TCJ Talkies about how my history of illness led to my discovery of comics and other such subjects, so give that a listen if you want.

also, I’ll be at MIX this weekend in Minneapolis! I’m tabling with Sparkplug and I’ll be doing a panel about failure (hopefully the importance of) on Sunday at 3:30 with Nic Breutzman, John Porcellino and Zak Sally.

Cool, we’re hoping to wander by MIX on Saturday. It took a while to convince my wife that going to see someone we follow on the Internet isn’t stalking!

Wow! I’ve had a few MRI’s, but never had an experience like that! Pretty wild, Julia! Despite it’s morbidness, I did get a chuckle out of this one. :-)

I’m surprised there’s only one cat in this. A few more and you could have had a Michelle Pfeiffer moment.

I love that the cat’s initial reaction is to calmly bite a chunk out of her face.

I really love Jack’s reaction. First the wide eyes, then the bushy tail, and then – well it’s all about cats, isn’t it? – the question, where he gets his next dinner. :)

Thanks for posting the TCJ interview. I enjoyed it. I look forward to reading whatever you do!

I already know how creepy this sounds, but here goes: sometimes when I get frustrated about the see-saw that is my health, I think about you and your health issues and how you still manage to do the one thing I want to do: make comics.
Yeah. You’re an inspiration. Get over it.

I wonder, if they’d let people leave your ipod, or a small radio, or cassette player, or etc., playing in the MRI room, while you’re stuck in an MRI machine, for an hour. I think I’ll ask the medical people if I can play music, the next time I need an MRI.

Greetings from India. Regular follower of your comic but never commented before. Must say you sound a lot younger(?) in the interview, than you seem in these comics.
