sketches and events

October 20, 2011

If you live in NYC, you should come to Luca Bar (venute change! UCB East, 3rd Avenue & A) next Tuesday (oct 25th) for the first Crime Stoppers Club where I’ll be reading/showing comics with Kate Beaton, Michael Kupperman, Ted Travelstead and Sam Grittner. It starts at 7pm and goes past your bedtime.

then I’ll be at MIX in Minneapolis on Nov 5th-6th. I will be at the Sparkplug table, which needs your help right now so please stop by!  I’ll also be on a panel about the uplifting subject of failure on Sunday at 3:30 with Nic Breutzman, John Porcellino and Zak Sally.

I don’t like posts that are just information so here’s a sketch of Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint. Good lord this post is boooooring. Maybe later I’ll post something about how much I hate this recent crop of  ”quirky girl” tv shows and about how, despite legit criticisms, I really like American Horror Story so far. “I hate trees!” hahaha

Is the Salvation Arm the same thing as the Long Arm of the Poor?

I like the way you handle the brickwork and other detail without overworking it.

I would like to drop by if I weren’t completlely broke and lived in Sweden.

Also, I’ve read a lot of your comics now and you are defenetly one of my favourit cartoonists! Like your artwork and sketches as well! Keep up the good work!

The main character on “Awkward.” is supposed to be read as quirky but barely registers on the quirkometer. She just has a blog.

actually, she’s one of the only female characters in that “quirky girl” genre that I like. Despite the cringe inducing blog. Whoever writes for her is closer to writing an authentic female character than any of the other shows

There’s this micro series. The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, which is where I think they “stole” the show awkward from. It is on Youtube. She is anything but quirky. :D
