Important things and SPX

September 8, 2011

First and foremost, please take some time to read this post by the Comics Reporter about a Sparkplug fundraiser of sorts, mostly in which you buy awesome books from Sparkplug for a good reason.

“Cartoonist and Sparkplug Comics Publisher Dylan Williams is facing serious health consequences due to a recent cancer diagnosis. The private Williams has apparently given the critic and writer Rob Clough the okay to ask on his behalf that comics fans out there consider supporting Sparkplug at this time by buying books from the company.

That’s simple enough and you get something out of it, so please read more and consider helping out! Need some suggestions for books? Tessa Brunton’s new book Passage is amazing. It’s not only funny and beautifully written/drawn but she handles personal subjects in a way that made me have feelings. Ugh you guys I’m not good at describing books because I end up trying to avoid words like “amazing” and  ”inspiring” and other such platitudes. Just read it already, I promise it’s worth it.

Sparkplug has way too many artists and books that I like because it’s also a distro, but a few more good ones for now:

Diary of a Mosquito Abatement Man by John Porcellino, Edison Steelhead’s Lost Portfolio by Renee French, My Alaskan Summer by Corinne Mucha, all the Windy Corner Magazines by Austin English and others, and I can’t keep listing books because there’s too many I like. Just go here and buy something !

in other news, another SPX is here. Pizza Island will be tabling together so come by and get some books and shit. Roz Chast is going to be there this year and I’m kinda nerding out about it. I’ll be selling Fart Party vol 1, Drinking at the Movies, the Great Pretenders and some posters. And on Sunday, come see Mike Dawson, Domitille Collardey, Meredith Gran, Roger Langridge and me bumble our way through a panel about the current state of publishing and our refrigerators at 1:30.
