Comic Sets pt 2

July 12, 2011

continuing on with more comic sets, these are two different kitchens, the first being my current kitchen in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY (never once as clean as depicted) and the second was my brother’s kitchen in San Francisco in an apartment on Fell St. Again, these are good to remember where things are placed when drawing from different angles, but don’t worry about it too much because no one is going to notice if the jar of cumin is suddenly dried basil or has moved completely across the kitchen. However, if a background idem is solid black or has any detailed characteristics (or is the only background idem) people will definitely notice if it disappears or moves too much, although they might not know exactly what is different, it’s just slightly jarring to the eye.
All that said, my comics are mostly dialogue and narrative driven so this advice is really only applicable to people who put a lot of effort into the visual. I don’t follow almost 95% of my advice but I’m pretty sure it’s good.

OMG I love you! I hope that is not too forward. But you make me laugh.

i really like the detail of these drawings, and also their feeling of abandonment which reminds me to prepare for the rapture.

This reminds me of those real estate open houses where one attends “with the intent” of buying a house but is secretly there to see how the other half, (97%) live. I respect ‘why’ you choose to show me these images and I respect your right to choose to choose that. I understand these crude monkey cave scribbles above are meant as a sort of illustrated education tool but really I’m just making tedious mental note of where objects and furniture are placed and how I might secretly judge you as a person based on these choices.

It doesn’t look good, Wertz.
