Stumptown roundup

April 22, 2011

Excuse my internet absence, I’ve been holed up in Laura Park’s apartment in Chicago, discussing the validity of death from terminal lazy bones. Unfortunately I didn’t get any new comics at Stumptown this year because I didn’t want to haul them in my suitcase, so I don’t have any good suggestions. Why’d I even bother typing that sentence?
Overall, I enjoyed Stumptown, despite slow sales and my perpetually cranky attitude at conventions. People often say I look miserable but that’s just my face! that’s how I look even when I’m not in the middle of grave suffrage. My new mini comic, The Great Pretenders, sold out quickly but prints and books were slow movin’. But all the volunteers and organizers were really sweet and I’m a nerd who just likes hanging out in bookstores and doodling, so going to Portland for a few days was a nice respite. I wish I had more to report, but I mostly just hung out at the hotel all weekend watching the history channel, so here’s some photos instead:

Sarah took this photo of us at Doug Fir. I just like it is all. It’s like the cover for a bad album about sweaters.

I made some prints, of which there are leftovers I’ll be selling here later this week. These photos are boring so I’m gonna stop posting them but there are more on my flickr account. Thanks to everyone who organized/exhibited/attended Stumptown! see y’all at TCAF soon.

I am kicking myself in the butt for not going to see you at the convention. Can’t wait to check out the prints though and sounds like you had a sleepy time in Portland which is pretty fitting.

You should sell posters of that last photo. I would hang one in my office.

You didn’t look miserable at all; just busy (you were on the floor, putting stuff together). Ever go to a convention, prepared to ask someone that you admire a set of questions and your brain blanks out? That’s what happened. I saw you and all my questions went *poof*.

Glad you made it to Powell’s; the most EVIL place to shop in Portland; I make it a point to either (a) not have any cash or plan to buy anything when I visit there, or (b) Have a certain amount ready to spend. Oh! I was going to suggest that you and Sarah head over to Saturday Market in the a.m. on Sunday. Did you ever get the chance? Best elephant ears anywhere!

You’re one-up on me; you’ve made it to Doug Fir. I’ve yet to make it there. It’s supposed to be a great place for music and food.

Anyway, glad you made it up. I hope you make it out next year!

Hayley from American Dad reminds me of your character.

Hey my pen! And that’s where I left my pencil…hopefully those are being used for comics or some other kind of awesome or I’ll let people know that Julia Wertz lady is a pen stealing floozy.

Portland is a big haunted city.
