west coast tour, pt 3: Portland

October 29, 2010

Well, I was gonna write all this stuff about the Portland leg of the trip, but then I realized that there wasn’t a whole lot to report on. I basically sat around Jesse and Andrice’s house with other cartoonists and drew and ate junk food and played with cats and babies all weekend.

I know! Barf! Naw, just kidding, that’s basically all I do here in New York too. Minus the babies, because people tend to leave NY once they get the babies. The baby in question here is Franklin, and belongs to the lovely Julia Gfrorer.

Vanessa and I did a slide show at Reading Frenzy, which was so packed that some folks couldn’t get in, which I blame mostly on this obnoxious girl dressed like a zombie who was on ecstasy and just wandered into RF on accident and then called her friend and slurred, “you should come to this open mic thing!” Oh well, at least she was entertaining.

Hanging out in Portland makes me think of the time my neighbor Tom said, “someday I’ll just move to Portland, get a pair of Clarks and be done with it.” Besides the fact that pretty much all the shoes I own are Clarks, this sounds more and more appealing. But mostly because I really want to live in a house that has a bath tub, breakfast nook and a porch. This photo should be a holiday card or a PR photo for a terrible 30 something sitcom:

So, this wraps up the mini west coast tour. More photos on flickr. Many thanks to Jesse and Andrice for housing/entertaining us, to Brian Gardes of Stumptown Trade Review (podcast interview to be up later) and Chloe at Reading Frenzy.
